Lately it seems like there are more Green Building Standards in North America than you can shake a stick at. This is great news for the environment and home buyers; it’s fantastic that so many people are enthusiastically developing these new standards, guidelines and benchmarks to build cleaner, greener homes. It can be overwhelming however, for many professionals in the construction industry to digest the hundreds of pages associated with each standard.
Of the numerous regional, national and international programs there are four that seem to be the most popular for new home construction. These include Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the National Green Building Standard (ICC-700), the International Green Construction Code (IGCC) and Energy Star – Qualified New Homes. Each of these standards are different in the way that they address the inclusion of a fireplace in a new home. We understand how complex and time consuming it can be to review all the materials associated with these programs so we have taken it upon ourselves to simplify how electric fireplaces fit in.
