If you are anything like me, the master bedroom is your safe haven. It is the room that instantly relaxes, comforts and soothes you. When I walk into my bedroom I feel calm, at peace, relaxed, and happy. The decorating book I’m reading right now says that if something makes you happy it is by definition beautiful – so surround yourself with beautiful things. I already love the way I feel in my bedroom but I want to add a fireplace to create atmosphere and maximize the relaxation factor – in fact this must be true for many people because the “master bedroom is the most desired room to add a second fireplace” as per the 2011 State of the Hearth Industry Report
Since we’ve moved into our home a month ago, I admit I’ve been a bit obsessed with interior décor – and I am always looking for and collecting images that inspire me. Most recently, the master bedroom in particular has been the focus because we’ve finally found the perfect layout for our bedroom furniture and now we can move to phase 2 – a small seating area we’d like to function as a reading nook.
This is the image that inspired me to write this post and the image responsible for my master bedroom reading nook decorating breakthrough! Don’t you just love when that happens?
This space incorporates a fireplace and a mantel shelf to complete the look. If you are not limited by floor space, you can also achieve this look with a floor standing fireplace – corner or flat wall.
All the benefits of a traditional fireplace (look and function) without taking up any floor space – is a perfect solution for my master bedroom. I don’t have much floor space to spare and I really want a fireplace. I really like its quiet presence too – it’s not overly decorated, I feel my mind is free to relax.
Even though I knew installing a firebox was an option for our bedroom, I couldn’t quite picture it until I saw this image – a curse of the visual learner. If you too have been thinking about adding a fireplace to your master bedroom, consider all the options available – from traditional floor standing models, to modern wall-mount units…the possibilities are truly endless.
Adding a fireplace to your bedroom will not only increase the value of your home, but will make you feel happy each and every time you step foot into your own piece of heaven. You will never want to leave.
