Looking for that certain something to complete your living room?

Your living room is falling flat, something is missing. A couch, chair and coffee table, the essential pieces in any living room but doesn’t it seem cold and empty.

I just wasn’t happy with the way my room flowed. I tried adding some subtle colour splashes with some couch pillows and an area rug. After much arranging and rearranging I decided that I needed a focal point. Went through my options, should I display my old china in a nice seventeen century cabinet, add a large wall painting. I wanted something that would gain a bit more attention and serve more of a purpose then just a focal point in a room. I went online to find ideas in how to set up my room and discovered a fireplace is what I needed but did not have the hook up for one and did not have the budget for someone to come and put in a gas line.

A simple search for fireplaces brought up many websites that featured electric fireplaces and boy have they changed. I found that an electric fireplace would be a great addition to my room. There are electric fireplaces mantels, media consoles and even inserts for in-wall installations. Not only are there different types of electric fireplace packages, but also there are numerous styles from traditional to contemporary and different finishes like burnished walnut to distressed oak.

The electric fireplace insert (also known as the “firebox”) comes in various sizes, and the flame effect looks different with different brands. The realism of the flame is one of the more important elements to consider. There are different flame effects, and the only way to really judge them is to seem them. Not only does the fireplace look good, but our flame can operate without the heater on, for year round ambiance. This is a great addition that you can turn on and off – which makes your fireplace a full four-season purchase.

The only requirement to have the electric fireplace in my living room was the space and a plug near by. I decided to look into the mantels, because it demanded more attention in the room. I decided to go with a burnished walnut traditional style as it matches my decor and colours.

The biggest benefit that I have found with an electric fireplace versus a gas fireplace is the easy installation, control over the temperature and the realism of the flame effect.
